Our Story

Richmond has had a brewing legacy going back almost to its founding - when Ezra Boswell set up the first commercial brewery in the area. Others would follow: Christian and George Buhl, Emil Minck, and Joseph Martischang.

With Prohibition’s heavy hand, brewing in Richmond ended around 1918, and never really caught on again. sadly, there have been but a handful of craft breweries in-town since the 1990s.

At Teuerberg Brewery, we hope to bring those older traditions back to the modern era. Simple, well-crafted, recipes for styles those immigrants who founded Richmond would recognize, but will still find happy customers in today’s world full of never-ending choices!

We’re still in-process, and hope to be open in July, 2027!

Teuerberg - What’s in a Name?

Teuerberg is a rough play on the name of the city we call home: Richmond!

  • Teuer is German for “expensive” or “rich”

  • berg means “mountain” or “hill”

  • Put the two together - and you get the Richhill, or Richmond!

Why set-up shop here in Richmond?

The best answer is the simplest - we want to give back! when you look across the county, there’s a distinct lack of beer being made here in the area, and we want to help bring options back to the fridges of Wayne County!
